This happens when the body responses to a trigger such as exposure to cold air, allergens in the air, emotional stress or heavy exercise. When the airways become narrow, patients show symptoms such as tightness of the chest, wheezing noise while breathing, coughing and shortness of breath. In Ayurveda Asthama or “Shwaas”, is caused by accumulation of Kapha in the airways. This causes obstruction in the pathway of Vata or Pranavayu leading to symptoms of Shwaas . This pathology is same as a big truck stopped in the middle of an highway creating a traffic jam.
